BEIJING: Chinese internet search engine Baidu Inc (9888.HK) plans to launch a chatbot service using artificial intelligence (AI) that is similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT in March.
The service would initially be offered as a stand-alone application by the technology firm, according to the source, who asked to remain anonymous because the information is confidential. ChatGPT’s technology develops from massive quantities of data how to respond to user inputs in a human-like manner, providing information like a search engine or even prose like an aspiring novelist.
ChatGPT skills
ChatGPT excels in more professional skills like programming and essay writing while Chinese chatbots now focus on social engagement. According to the source, Baidu intends to include results generated by chatbots rather than just links when users conduct searches.
Baidu decided not to respond.
According to Reuters, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O) has considered raising its $1 billion investment in San Francisco-based OpenAI. In addition, the company has tried to incorporate OpenAI’s image-generation software into its Bing search engine, presenting a new challenge to Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) Google.
As it seeks to diversify its revenue streams, Beijing-based Baidu has been making significant investments in AI technologies, particularly in cloud services, chips, and autonomous driving. At a conference of developers last month, Baidu revealed three AI-powered “creators” whose technology allows them to assume the roles of illustrator, screenwriter, editor, or animator.
