BEIJING: China will limit the quarantine restrictions for travelers from January 8, the last significant shift from China’s zero-Covid policy.
After the closing of borders for three years, China will properly reopen the country for travelers seeking work and study visas, or seeking to visit China for tourism.
This development comes at a time when China is struggling with the Covid 19 pandemic which exacerbated after the Covid restrictions were lifted by the government.
Quarantine and virus situation
According to reports, hospitals are overcrowded and senior citizens are dying. Officials have ceased disclosing Covid data, and it is now unknown what the exact toll is in terms of daily case counts and fatalities.
Covid cases in China
Last week, Beijing reported a few deaths and around 4,000 new Covid infections per day. It said on Sunday that it will no longer post case toll at all. According to Reuters, however, the British health data business ‘Airfinity’ claimed that China had more than a million infections and 5,000 fatalities every day.
After three years of Covid lockdowns, closed borders, and required quarantines for Covid cases and contacts.
