BEIJING: China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned on Saturday against the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, responding to accusations from Kyiv that Beijing is assisting Russia in the war. Despite Kyiv’s skepticism toward China’s calls for dialogue, Wang reiterated China’s willingness to mediate for peace.
“The top priority is to ensure no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting, and no provocations by any party, while pushing for de-escalation as soon as possible,” he stated at the UN General Assembly.
Wang said that China aims to play a constructive role, engaging in shuttle diplomacy to promote dialogue rather than exacerbating the situation for selfish gains.

He also called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza but only briefly mentioned the resurgence of conflict in Lebanon without commenting on the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut.
“There must be no delay in achieving a comprehensive ceasefire, with the two-state solution as the fundamental resolution,” Wang asserted, adding that China has always supported the Palestinian people’s rights and their quest for full UN membership.
