MUNICH: China’s top diplomat Wang Yi said that China will steadfastly serve as a “force for stability” in the world, asserting the country’s commitment to maintaining continuity and stability in its major policies.

During a speech at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Wang Yi said, “No matter the changes in the international situation, China as a responsible major country will always maintain the continuity and stability of its major policies and resolutely stay a force for stability in a turbulent world.”

Addressing a gathering of 180 leaders and defense chiefs, Wang emphasized China’s stance as a responsible major country, dedicated to promoting stability amidst global turbulence. Despite shifts in the international landscape, Wang affirmed China’s resolve to uphold its principles and contribute positively to global stability.

Wang’s remarks come amid heightened tensions, particularly in Eastern Europe, where Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed for more support in his country’s conflict against Russian troops. While China asserts neutrality in the conflict, it has faced criticism for refraining from condemning Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

China’s Relationship with Russia

Regarding China’s relationship with Russia, Wang underscored the bilateral ties as normal relations between neighboring major countries, rejecting notions of forming alliances or targeting third parties. He emphasized China’s opposition to attributing responsibility for the Ukraine crisis to Beijing.

Wang reiterated China’s call for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid access in the Israel-Hamas conflict, condemning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Wang defended China’s record on peace and development while dismissing accusations of human rights violations in the region.
