China-US Trade Ties: Raimondo says US Companies Deserve Predictable Environment

WASHINGTON: Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has said that the US companies deserve predictable environment and a level playing ground, Western media reported on Sunday.

The world’s two largest economies used to be leading trade partners, but Washington now has more business with its neighbors Canada and Mexico, on the other hands Beijing has more trade with Southeast Asia.

Raimondo who has recently visited Chine told media that US wants to enhance its trade with China. She noted that some of the Chinese decisions in this regard are positive but situation on ground is quite different and requires more efforts from the other side.

She regretted that China is making things more difficult but hoped for a stable growing trade ties.

Raimondo noted that U.S. firms are facing new challenges, like unexplained penalties, raids on businesses and changes in laws.

Giving details of her discussions with Chinese officials she said that she had a very candid and open conversations.

Earlier speaking with Shanghai Communist Party head Chen Jining on a visit to China, Raimondo said a strong economic relationship is good for both Beijing and Washington, and for the entire world.

The US commerce secretary is one of a number of top US officials who visited China in recent few months. Her visit was part of an effort by the US to improve its working relationship with China.
