BEIJING: China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the United States to “play a constructive and responsible role” in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict to resolve the issue and prevent innocent Palestinian civilians from relentless Israeli bombardment.
According to a readout published by the Chinese foreign ministry, during a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Saturday, Wang emphasized the importance of major countries adhering to objectivity, fairness, and international law while dealing with international hot-spot issues.
“The United States should practically play a responsible and constructive role, pushing the issue back on track for a diplomatic and political settlement as soon as possible,” Wang Yi stated, underlining the need for calmness and restraint in addressing the conflict.
Wang Yi also highlighted China’s call for an urgent international peace meeting to facilitate a broad consensus on resolving the crisis. He reiterated China’s support for the implementation of a ‘two-state solution’ as the fundamental pathway to address the Palestinian issue.
Since October 7, Israel has launched continued bombardment, martyring at least 2,215 innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
China’s diplomatic efforts continue to emphasize the need for a peaceful resolution and the importance of international cooperation to achieve lasting stability in the region.
Russia to Broker Talks to Resolve Israel-Gaza Conflict
Meanwhile, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, is set to meet representatives of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas in Qatar next week to broker talks between Israel and Hamas to find a solution to the crisis that unfolded on October 7.
According to reports from Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency, the talks are aimed at finding a resolution to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Moscow, emphasizing its commitment to peace, has so far condemned Israeli violence in the ongoing conflict.
While reiterating its readiness to mediate, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Bogdanov expressed his willingness to hold talks with Hamas representatives, stating, “If they are willing, we always are in favor of contact. Especially in this situation, the meeting would be useful for solving practical issues, including the freeing of hostages.”
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had stated that Russia could play a constructive role in ending the crisis. President Putin also criticized Israel for what he deemed an “unacceptable” siege in Gaza and reiterated Russia’s support for the creation of a Palestinian state as the most viable solution to the conflict.
