BEIJING, China: China on Monday called for de-escalation in the ongoing Ukraine war as Ukrainian forces launched a significant offensive into Russia’s Kursk border region.
The surprise attack, which saw Kyiv’s troops penetrate up to 30 kilometers into Russian territory, marked a shift in the battlefield dynamics after months of slow Russian advances.
In response, China urged all parties involved to adhere to “three principles for de-escalating the situation,” which include avoiding the expansion of the battlefield, preventing further escalation, and refraining from actions that could intensify the conflict.
The Chinese foreign ministry emphasized its commitment to maintaining communication with the international community and playing a constructive role in seeking a political solution to the crisis.
Although China maintains its stance as a neutral party, its close ties with Russia have drawn criticism from NATO members, who have labeled Beijing a “decisive enabler” of the conflict.
