ISLAMABAD: China has urged its citizens in Iran to evacuate “as soon as possible” amid what it described as a significant rise in external security risks, reflecting growing concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to official statements, China’s foreign ministry, along with its embassies and consulates in Iran, advised nationals to strengthen safety precautions and depart through available commercial flights or overland routes where feasible. The advisory also discouraged travel to Iran at this stage.

Chinese diplomatic missions said they would provide necessary consular assistance to citizens seeking to leave, including coordination support for those exiting through neighbouring countries.

The warning comes against the backdrop of rising military and political tensions involving Iran and the United States, including reports of heightened military readiness and threats of retaliatory action, prompting fears of a broader regional confrontation.

In recent days, exchanges of warnings between Tehran and Washington have intensified, raising concerns about potential strikes or countermeasures. Several governments have reviewed or updated travel advisories in light of the evolving security environment.

Beijing’s move underscores its focus on safeguarding overseas citizens and maintaining readiness in volatile regions. The advisory did not specify immediate triggers but cited overall deteriorating security conditions as the basis for the precautionary measure.
