China to Continue Supporting Political Settlement of Ukraine Crisis

BEIJING:  China will continue to enhance communication and dialogue with all stakeholders and contribute to the political solution of the Ukraine crisis, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

The spokesperson made these comments in response to a question about the Special Representative of the Chinese government on Eurasian Affairs Li Hui’s attending the meeting in Jeddah on the Ukraine issue last weekend.

According to the spokesperson, Li accepted an invitation to fly to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on August 5 to attend the meeting over the Ukraine crisis.

Li did numerous conversations and exchanges with the parties involved, clearly outlined China’s position and suggestions, listened to the views and recommendations of various parties, and attempted to reach more consensus on the political resolution of the Ukraine situation. It was acknowledged that China has played a constructive role in advancing peace talks.

According to the spokesperson, China will continue to act per the four principles, joint efforts in four areas, and three observations put forth by President Xi Jinping, work following the document titled “China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis,” improve dialogue and communication with all parties, and contribute to the political resolution of the Ukraine crisis. —Xinhua/APP
