BEIJING: Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s member Wang Yi on Wednesday said that China fully supports the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in hosting the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai.
During a meeting with COP28 UAE President-Designate Sultan Al Jaber in Beijing, he said China stands ready to maintain close cooperation and communication with the UAE to ensure positive outcomes of the conference.
He added that both sides can work together to promote the building of a rational and fair international climate governance system for win-win results and to protect the legitimate development rights of developing nations.
Wang also introduced the concept and practice of green and sustainable development of China, saying that Beijing was an active advocate and a firm activist in tackling the issue of climate change.
Wang Highlights China-UAE Relations
On bilateral ties, Wang said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, relations between Beijing and Dubai have maintained a momentum of stable and sound stable development.
China is willing to continue to understand and support the UAE on matters concerning core interests and major concerns, jointly build the Belt and Road with high standards, expand fields of mutually beneficial cooperation, and push the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.
He congratulated the UAE on joining the BRICS family as one of the first batches of new entrants, stating it will provide new vitality to BRICS cooperation and new prospects for the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the UAE. He said that as a comprehensive strategic partner of the UAE, China is happy to see it play a greater role in global and regional affairs.
Jaber, who is also the UAE’s special envoy for climate change, said that his country and China have solid mutual trust and a foundation for cooperation, and the UAE side is firmly committed to the comprehensive strategic partnership of long-term ties between the two nations.
He said that the UAE highly commends China’s vision of a community with a mutual future for humanity, China’s major contribution to global sustainable development, and its leadership in global cooperation on climate change.
