BEIJING: Spokesman for China’s foreign ministry Wang Wenbin stated on Tuesday that China supports the Maldives in protecting their sovereignty and cooperating with other nations on the basis of equality.
During his routine briefing, the spokesperson answered a question concerning the first wave of Indian forces’ withdrawal from the Maldives by saying, “I don’t know the specifics.”
But he added that China backs the Maldives in maintaining their sovereignty and cooperating with other nations on an equal footing.
Mohamed Muizzu, the president of the Maldives, took office in September with the promise to remove Indian security forces stationed there to guard the nation’s extensive maritime border.
