SHANGHAI: China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed “strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition” towards the United States (US) National Defense Authorization Act, signed into law by US President Biden a day before.

New US law

According to Reuters, the ministry charged on Saturday that the $858bn military spending measure contained provisions that “cause serious damage to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait”. The law authorised the authorities for up to $10bn in security assistance and fast-tracked weapons procurement for Taiwan.

It is to mention here that China considers Taiwan as its territory and has never renounced using force to bring the island under its control. The new bill also restricted US government purchases of products using computer chips made by specific Chinese companies. China’s ministry said the case ignores the facts to exaggerate a ‘China threat. It said it wantonly interferes in China’s internal affairs and are serious political provocations to China.
