BEIJING: Tianjin Dayu Irrigation Group, a leader in China’s water-saving industry, has dispatched the initial shipment of equipment for the Million Acres of Green Pakistan Smart Farm Project.
This innovative initiative aims to revolutionize agricultural practices in Pakistan, particularly in the realm of irrigation efficiency.
The first consignment comprises intelligent water and fertilizer-integrated irrigation equipment designed to cover a vast farmland area spanning 2,000 hectares.
These advanced systems will facilitate the cultivation and irrigation of various crops such as wheat, cotton, tomatoes, and corn, bolstering Pakistan’s agricultural landscape and offering crucial technical support for the development of smart farms.
The project was launched in response to Pakistan’s LIMS (Land Information and Management System) initiative, introduced by the Prime Minister on July 7, 2023. LIMS seeks to modernize agricultural practices, enhance productivity, and address the food requirements of Pakistan’s growing population by leveraging cutting-edge technology and modern irrigation systems.
Ghulam Qadir, Pakistan’s Commercial Counselor in the Embassy in Beijing, emphasized the significance of technological advancements in bolstering Pakistan’s agricultural sector.
He underscored the potential for increased production and future export opportunities, expressing keen interest in collaborating with Dayu Group across various domains, including flood prevention and rural infrastructure development.
Cui Jing, senior vice president of Dayu Group, highlighted the mutual interest between Pakistani and Chinese partners in expanding cooperation beyond irrigation to include rural sewage treatment and drinking water safety projects.
She expressed confidence in the broad prospects for future collaboration, noting the potential transfer of successful management experiences from Tianjin to Belt and Road partners like Pakistan.
Despite Pakistan’s chronic water shortages, a significant portion of its water supply is allocated to cultivating water-intensive crops. In response, the partnership between Tianjin and Pakistan aims to implement water-saving practices and innovative solutions to address these challenges while promoting sustainable agricultural development.
With Tianjin’s expertise in green manufacturing and water-saving initiatives, the collaboration aims to establish a comprehensive model for water conservation across the agricultural industry chain, offering valuable insights and solutions for Belt and Road partners like Pakistan.
