BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Thursday that China shares a similar position on Palestinian issues with Arab countries.

China and Arab nations have similar views on the Palestinian issue, jointly calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to violence. They have also condemned actions that harm civilians and aim to prevent the situation from escalating into a humanitarian crisis, said Wang Wenbin during his press briefing.

Wang Wenbin noted that the Arab League held an emergency foreign ministers meeting in Cairo, Egypt, to address the escalating Israeli aggression and passed a resolution. The meeting emphasized the need for international cooperation to halt the surge in violence and ensure the delivery of aid to affected areas.

China and Arab countries believe the international community should provide humanitarian support to the Palestinian people and work towards the prompt resumption of peace talks. Wang Wenbin emphasized that the recurring conflicts between Palestine and Israel stem from deviations in the Middle East peace process, erosion of the two-state solution’s foundation, and ineffective implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions.

China is committed to maintaining communication and coordination with the Arab League and other stakeholders to actively promote peace talks and make continuous efforts to get the Middle East peace process back on track.

Regarding the tragic loss of lives during the recent escalation between Palestine and Israel, Wang Wenbin confirmed the deaths of three Chinese nationals, two who remain missing, and several injured people. He extended deep condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families and the injured. Chinese diplomatic missions are making every effort to coordinate medical treatment for the injured and handle follow-up tasks. He urged relevant authorities to search for the missing persons and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals and institutions.

The recent escalation in the conflict has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with Israel intensifying air strikes on Gaza and imposing a complete siege on the Palestinian enclave following a surprise attack by Hamas over the weekend.
