China’s daily Covid 19 reported cases have escalated to the highest since the pandemic began, according to official data on Thursday.
These new numbers are relatively small compared to the vast population of China, around 1.4 billion, and the caseloads seen in Western countries at the height of the pandemic.
But following Beijing’s strict zero-Covid 19 policy, small virus outbreaks can lead to shutting down entire cities and place infected patients into strict quarantine.
The Number of Virus Recorded in Beijing
According to the National Health Bureau of China, the country on Wednesday recorded 31,454 domestic cases, in which 27,517 caseloads are without symptoms.
The unstoppable zero-Covid push has created fatigue and resentment among the population as the pandemic’s third-anniversary approaches.
The latest figures for Covid 19 exceed the 29,390 infections recorded in mid of April when Shanghai was under complete lockdown, with citizens trying to buy food and access medical care in Shanghai.
As cases are escalating, multiple cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing, have strict Covid restrictions.
Chinese authorities said that Beijing requires a negative PCR test to detect cases within 48 hours to allow those seeking to use public places such as shopping malls, hotels, and government buildings. Schools across the Capital have moved towards online classes. — APP
