BEIJING: China has dismissed India’s objections over the release of a standard map, urging the Indian side to maintain objectivity and refrain from overinterpretation of the matter.
In response to China’s Tuesday release of a standard map that claimed Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin as regions within its borders, India raised a strong complaint with Beijing.
China’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Wang Wenbin, speaking at a routine press briefing at the International Press Center (IPC), stated, the 2023 edition of the standard map was released by the Ministry of Natural Resources on August 23. Wang Wenbin said that exercising sovereignty in accordance with the law is a customary practice for China.
Chinese foreign ministry further remarked that, “We hope the concerned party will maintain an objective and calm stance, refraining from excessive interpretation.”
India Lodges Diplomatic Protest Against China’s Map
India reportedly lodged a diplomatic complaint against China’s standard map, arguing that such steps would only make the predicament worse.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ spokeswoman, Arindam Bagchi, stated that India rejected these allegations as they had no basis. He condemned China’s actions for making the continuing boundary conflict more difficult to resolve.
