JAKARTA: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China’s commitment to partnering with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to enhance regional peace, stability, and prosperity. His remarks came in a congratulatory letter addressed to a forum focused on the future of China-ASEAN relations, held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In his letter, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, underscored the alignment between China and ASEAN in their development strategies and modernization concepts. He emphasized that China views ASEAN as a “friendly and close neighbor” and a “reliable long-term comprehensive strategic partner.”

Wang highlighted the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which he noted are closely aligned with the principles of the Bandung Conference and the ASEAN Charter. These principles, he stated, provide a strong foundation for fostering deeper cooperation and building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.

The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that China is eager to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with ASEAN and support the organization’s community-building efforts. He expressed a desire to see constructive suggestions emerge from the forum that could guide the future development of China-ASEAN relations.

Wang Yi also emphasized the importance of collective efforts to promote a multipolar world and foster inclusive economic globalization. He called for enhanced collaboration to provide new impetus for these goals, ensuring that development remains equal and orderly for all parties involved.
