BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Monday that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an inclusive and open platform, and both Pakistan and China would welcome all international organizations and countries to participate in the construction of the mega Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) flagship project to achieve collective development.

“CPEC is an inclusive and open platform. Pakistan and China welcome all steps that support the BRI and the construction of CPEC,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said during his regular media briefing.

While speaking at a joint press conference along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Turkiye to participate in the construction of the CPEC project. He said Pakistan would discuss the matter with Chinese leadership if Turkiye wanted to join the flagship project.

China Terms CPEC Flagship Project an Open and Inclusive Platform

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson termed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project as an inclusive and open platform and a flagship project of the mega BRI project. He said that China and Pakistan would welcome international organizations and countries ready to join the project.

The spokesperson maintained that such organizations and countries could join the CPEC project in appropriate ways.

The CPEC, as a pilot project of the Built and Road Initiative, was launched in 2013 with a focus on cooperation in Gwadar Port, energy, infrastructure, and industries.

The two countries have recently expanded their cooperation to the fields of science and technology, agriculture, people’s livelihood, and information technology industries.
