BEIJING:  China and Pakistan are traditional friends and close neighbours, with strong cooperation across various fields; however, this cooperation is not directed against any third party, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday.

During her regular press briefing, Mao referred to recent talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

She noted that China welcomes and supports efforts by India and Pakistan to resolve their differences through dialogue, work toward a full and lasting ceasefire, and pursue fundamental solutions.

She emphasised that such efforts align with the long-term interests of both countries, contribute to regional peace and stability, and reflect the shared expectations of the international community.

“As we stressed more than once, China stands ready to continue to play a constructive role to this end,” she added.

Commenting on the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan trilateral meeting held in Beijing, Mao Ning stated that the foreign ministers of the three countries held an informal meeting in the Chinese capital earlier this morning.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said that resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions was essential for lasting peace in South Asia, as he met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing.

In a high-level meeting held in Beijing, both sides reaffirmed their nations’ enduring partnership and shared commitment to regional stability, a Foreign Office news release said.

During the meeting, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s deep appreciation for China’s consistent support, particularly in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and right to self-defence.
