BEIJING: To promote scientific and technological innovation in the area of nutrition and health, we will further our cooperation with International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences in the future through joint research on important technologies, academic exchanges, training of international TCM talents, implementation of international cooperation projects, and other areas.

Prof. Wang Fengzhong, Director of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), voiced this opinion while speaking at the 2023 China-Pakistan Nutrition and Health Centre Cooperation Forum.

China Economic Net (CEN) reported on Monday that Prof. Wang Fengzhong asked Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Pakistan, to be a visiting professor at IFST-CAAS on this occasion.

As a result of climate change, Pakistan is one of the most vulnerable nations and frequently experiences floods and droughts, which threaten food preservation.

Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Sindh’s Minister for Health & Population Welfare, was amazed by how IFST’s technology increases food shelf life while preserving flavor and nutrition, especially for food made for children and women.

Following her suggestion, the two countries decided to expand their cooperation in transferring technology from China to Pakistan in areas such as packaging and processing. According to local experts, China and Pakistan have a rich history of using traditional medicine and herbal remedies. For protecting the lives and health of the citizens of the two countries, long-term technical cooperation between China and Pakistan is extremely important.

The China-Pakistan Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre was formed, and a memorandum of cooperation was signed by IFST and ICCBS on June 9th, 2021. Both parties have developed a long-lasting amicable cooperation connection throughout the years regarding developing talent, academic exchanges, and other areas. The “China-Pakistan Nutrition and Health Research Centre” was unveiled at the “2021 China-Pakistan Food and Drug Resources Research and Application Conference,” which was organized by IFST and ICCBS. —APP
