BEIJING: China said on Thursday that it firmly opposes “all attempts to annex” Palestinian territories, reiterating its long-standing position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict just days after Israel’s security cabinet approved new measures aimed at tightening control over the occupied West Bank.
Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said China has consistently rejected actions that undermine Palestinian territorial integrity or alter the status of occupied land, according to AFP.
“China has always opposed the construction of new settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and opposed all attempts to annex or encroach upon Palestinian territory,” Lin told reporters.
The remarks come amid growing international concern over Israel’s recent policy decisions regarding the West Bank, which Palestinians view as further entrenching the occupation and reducing prospects for a two-state solution.
China has repeatedly called for restraint, dialogue, and adherence to international law, while voicing support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Beijing has positioned itself as a supporter of Palestinian rights and has urged the international community to work toward a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the conflict.
