CHONGQING: China made functional a new international land-sea trade corridor, a major trade channel between western Chinese provinces and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, with the opening of 78 new freight routes in the current year so far, setting a new annual record since its inception in 2017.
The trade corridor’s director of the coordination center for logistics and operations Liu Wei said that with southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality as its transportation hub, the corridor has increased the number of destinations to 338 ports in 113 countries and regions.
Transportation of Cargo Worth Billions of Dollars
According to figures provided by the center, in the first three quarters of 2022, Chongqing transported 105,000 TEUs of cargo worth 19.1 billion yuan (about 2.68 billion U.S. dollars) using the corridor, an increase of 29 percent and 46 percent year-on-year, respectively.
The newly established transportation routes include those joining China’s Chongqing, Guizhou, Ningxia, Gansu and Hunan with states Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar, said Liu.
The trade corridor enables efficient freight transportation using various modes like railways, highways and waterways.– APP
