BEIJING: Beijing said on Wednesday a bipartisan United States committee that recommended a more aggressive approach to handling competition with China was full of prejudice and hostility, accusing it of smears and attacks.
On Tuesday, the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party urged a “reset” of Washington’s economic relations with Beijing, including moving China from its current tariff classification, AFP news agency reported.
While legislators might not immediately take up many recommendations, the proposals could lead to bipartisan law-making in the future.
Beijing strongly criticized the committee on Wednesday as “dedicated to attacking and smearing China.”
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters that it was full of hostility and prejudice and could be said to be completely irrational.
China for Market Economy Principles
She added that the US should earnestly respect market economy principles and global trade rules to create a favorable environment for US-China economic and trade cooperation rather than the opposite.
