BEIJING, China: China has condemned the recent $2 billion US arms sale to Taiwan, which includes advanced missile systems and radar equipment, and vowed to take “all necessary measures” to uphold its sovereignty over Taiwan.
Beijing claims the arms package, authorized by the US State Department and awaiting Congressional approval, violates its sovereignty, damages China-US relations, and threatens stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Taiwan expressed gratitude, emphasizing that the deal strengthens its defence capabilities amid regular Chinese military operations near the island. Recently, Taiwan reported a record number of Chinese aircraft encroaching on its airspace. Beijing has maintained a steady presence of military assets around Taiwan, with large-scale drills near the island.

Meanwhile, the US remains Taiwan’s primary defence partner despite lacking formal diplomatic ties. In retaliation, Beijing has also sanctioned US defence companies involved in past Taiwan arms deals, underscoring the escalating military and political tension between China and the US over Taiwan’s defence.
