China Becomes Largest Trading Partner of Pakistan, Maldives, Bangladesh

BEIJING: China’s Vice Minister of Commerce Li Fei has said that China has become the largest trading partner of Pakistan, Maldives, and Bangladesh, local media reported on Wednesday.

The annual trade volume between South Asian countries and China came in at under US$100 billion ten-year ago, but the figure closed at $200 billion in 2022, representing an average annual increase of 8.3 percent, China’s Vice Minister for Commerce told a press conference in Beijing.

Regarding the China-South Asia Exposition set to be held from August 16 to 20 in Kunming, China’s Yunnan Province, he added that the expo had become a significant platform for trade and economic cooperation between South Asian nations and China.

Li added that the next event, the seventh since 2013, will be held completely offline in the current year.

Over 60 nations and regions have also expressed the intention to take part in the international expo so far, and about 1,000 enterprises are likely to attend the expo.

The international expo will also host 8 forums, including the 4th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum, and three other activities, including an inking ceremony for cooperation projects.
