China and Pakistan Discuss Energy Collaboration for Future

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, met with Caretaker Federal Minister for Power and Petroleum, Muhammad Ali, to discuss ongoing collaboration in the energy sector between the two countries.

The minister commended China’s continued engagement in Pakistan’s energy sector and congratulated the successful 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation that recently took place in China.

Ambassador Jiang emphasized the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a guiding force for international development. He highlighted the potential benefits for industries in both China and Pakistan through this cooperation. The proposal of organizing a delegation of private companies to meet with Chinese enterprises was warmly welcomed by the Ambassador as a means to enhance cooperation.

The Caretaker Federal Minister stressed that Pakistan’s future energy landscape would focus on indigenous and renewable sources. Areas of potential collaboration include renewables, transmission networks, and distribution companies (DISCOs). Leveraging the advanced technology of Chinese corporations, the establishment of a Coal Gasification plant in Thar could significantly contribute to bolstering energy supply to various industries.

This meeting underscores the commitment of both China and Pakistan to strengthening their energy partnership and fostering sustainable development for the benefit of both nations.
