SANTIAGO: The President of the South American country of Chile, Gabriel Boric, has said that Chile plans to open its embassy in the Palestinian territory.
Speaking at an event in Santiago, Gabriel Bourque said, “I am taking a risk by saying that we are going to open a regular embassy after our representative office in Palestine.” Gabriel Boric did not say anything about the location or date for the embassy’s opening.
Chile the first country
Still, after this announcement, Chile will become the first country in the Andean countries to open its embassy in the Palestinian territories, which is declared by Israel to be annexed.
According to foreign media, Chile’s Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola Noguera confirmed the plan to open an embassy in Palestine and said that no timeline had been decided for opening the embassy. Still, Chile recognizes both Israel and Palestine as legitimate countries.
Left-wing Chilean President Gabriel Boric has previously openly supported the Palestinian demand for a separate and independent state.
