LAHORE: The government in Pakistan’s most populous Punjab province has made significant amendments to the Punjab Civil Servants Act, 1974, by abolishing Rule 17-A.

A notification regarding this change was issued by the Secretary of Regulation Services and General Administration.

Under the new amendment, children of deceased Punjab government employees will no longer be entitled to government jobs.

The notification states, “In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 23 of the Punjab Civil Servants Act, 1974 (VIII of 1974), the Governor of Punjab is pleased to make the following amendment to the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1974, with immediate effect.”

The notification further reads, “In the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1974, Rule 17-A shall be omitted.”

Previously, Rule 17-A allowed for government jobs to be offered to family members of deceased government employees, enabling either a spouse or children to be eligible for such positions.
