ISLAMABAD/FLORIDA: At least three people including a child and a TV channel journalist were killed in a shooting-spree in Orlando in Florida on Wednesday. Police said that Spectrum News 13 journalist was covering one of the latest shootings when a bullet hit him, Orange County Sheriff John Mina said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said that Keith Melvin Moses was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the shooting. Moses was expected to be charged in four other shootings that occurred later in the day, including the killing of the Spectrum News 13 journalist, Mina added.
The sheriff said that Moses has a lengthy criminal history, including gun charges, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and assault with a deadly weapon. Mina said that deputies responded to the 6100 block of Hialeah Street around 11 am on Wednesday, where they located a woman in her 20s who was shot and died from her wounds. He said that detectives responded and collected evidence. Mina said police did not know why the suspect targeted the journalist and the mother and her daughter who were shot and killed.
TV news employee
Mina said the two journalists, a photographer, and a TV news employee, were on the scene to cover the homicide that morning, and they were shot in or around their vehicle. “That car was exactly in the same spot as the car was from the homicide this morning. So it’s unclear why exactly they targeted. And you know certainly, we are going to look into that, and we will definitely let you know,” Mina said. The sheriff said, “the vehicle did not look like a typical news vehicle with a lot of markings on it.”
Shortly after that shooting, police went to a third shooting scene and found a woman on Harrington Street and her 9-year-old daughter were shot inside a house. The 9-year-old died, the sheriff said. Mina said that it was unclear why the suspect entered that home.
