SAN FRANCISCO: OpenAI on Monday said it is launching a business version of ChatGPT as its artificial intelligence sensation grapples with declining usership nine months after its historic debut.

ChatGPT Enterprise will offer business customers a premium version of the AI bot, with “enterprise grade” security and privacy enhancements from previous versions, OpenAI said in a blog.

The question of data security has become an important one for OpenAI, with major companies, including Amazon, Apple and Samsung, blocking employees from using ChatGPT out of fear that sensitive information will be disclosed.

Open AI further said,”Today marks another step towards an AI assistant for work that helps with any task, is customized for your organization, and that protects your company data.”

The structure of ChatGPT Enterprise bears resemblance to Microsoft’s Bing Chat Enterprise, as both leverage OpenAI’s technology through a substantial partnership. Unlike the subscription-based ChatGPT Plus intended for individuals, ChatGPT Enterprise will be powered by GPT-4, OpenAI’s most advanced model. Business clients will enjoy exclusive benefits, including improved processing speed, demonstrating OpenAI’s commitment to enhancing productivity and creativity within teams.

OpenAI expressed their belief that AI has the potential to enhance multiple facets of work life, contributing to increased creativity and productivity among teams. The company noted that early adopters of ChatGPT Enterprise include enterprises like Carlyle, The Estée Lauder Companies, and PwC.

This release comes as ChatGPT grapples with sustaining the initial excitement that led to its rapid popularity, with Threads, the Twitter competitor developed by Meta (formerly Facebook), recently surpassing ChatGPT as the world’s fastest downloaded app. Analytics firm Similarweb reported that ChatGPT’s traffic declined by nearly 10 percent in both June and July. These declines may be attributed in part to the summer break for schools.

According to Similarweb, approximately a quarter of ChatGPT’s global users are in the 18-24 age group. However, OpenAI faces challenges beyond declining engagement. They are encountering resistance from news publishers and other platforms, including Twitter (now known as X) and Reddit, who are blocking OpenAI web crawlers from utilizing their data for AI model training.

Additionally, among US-based respondents familiar with ChatGPT, two-thirds expressed concerns that the government’s regulation of its usage might not be comprehensive enough. The research also indicated a rise in the utilization of ChatGPT for learning and work tasks, increasing from 12 percent in March to 16 percent in July. Interestingly, Pew’s findings revealed that 52 percent of Americans feel more apprehensive than excited about the growing integration of artificial. —APP
