CHASNUPP-5 MoU to Further Cement Pak-China Economic Cooperation: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 1200 Megawatt Chashma-5 Nuclear Power Plant is a good step forward in economic cooperation between China and Pakistan.

Addressing the MoU signing ceremony here on Tuesday, the PM said the project would be executed at a fast pace and without further delay.
He said Pakistan is up again for an investment of 4.8 billion dollars from China in this project. This sends the message that Pakistan is where Chinese investors and companies continue to show their trust and faith.

He said the Chinese companies conceded 30 billion dollars to Pakistan in two phases in implementing this project.

He said Pakistan has faced economic issues, and we are also engaged with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to finalize the 9th Review and met all conditions required by the IMF, China once again came to our support and rescue.

PM Shehbaz Sharif lauded great brotherly countries Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates, for extending support to Pakistan.

The PM said we are deeply obliged to the President of China XI Jinping and the Chinese leadership for their generous help to Pakistan.

Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, the Chinese Charge d’affaires Ms Pang Chunxue, representatives of Chinese companies, and other higher authorities of Pakistan and China were also present on this occasion.
