Chaos in IIOJK: Amarnath Yatra will be Suspended on Anniversary of Cancelation of Article 370

SRINAGAR: Local officials said that the Amarnath Yatra will be suspended on Saturday in the fourth anniversary of the cancelation of Article 370 to due to security issues in the disputed region. Jammu Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa told the media that the Amarnath yatra would remain suspended on Saturday.

The development comes as locals said that things have become worse after the unilateral act of Modi’s government to cancel the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir  on August 5, 2019.

IIOJK politician Mehbooba Mufti’s party was not allowed to hold an event on the fourth anniversary since New Delhi unilaterally cancelled the special status of IIOJK. As per media reports several leaders of her party also arrested by Police and security agencies on the eve of the fourth anniversary. In a tweet, she also rejected the claim of India regarding normalcy in the disputed region.

Similarly, another political figure Omar Abdullah told AP in interview that there is no normalcy in IIOJK and rejected the New Delhi’s claim in this regard. He also admitted that the disputed region also lack democracy.  He said that there is no civil liberties, press freedom in IIOJK. The politician also questioned why is IIOJK being deprived its democratic right?
