PARIS: Bayern Munich beat Paris St-Germain 1-nil in their last-16 first-leg tie as Kingsley Coman made fans recall his 2020 Champions League final performance with a winning goal.
The Frenchman also scored the only goal early in the second half when Bayern overcame his former club PSG to win the trophy three years ago.
Substitute Kylian Mbappe, who was back after injury, appeared to have rescued a draw for the hosts, but his effort was ruled out for offside in the build-up.
Ligue 1 champions PSG have lost all of their last three competitions.
Meanwhile, Bayern, who are now favourites to reach the quarter-finals, remained unbeaten in all competitions since September 17 despite having defender Benjamin Pavard sent off for a second booking in injury time.
PSG struggled to create any major chances in the first half, while Bayern dominated possession but lacked a cutting edge until Coman’s winning shot in the 53rd minute.
Pressure mounting on PSG’s Galtier
Another damaging defeat has piled pressure on manager Christophe Galtier owing to recent losses against Marseille in the Coupe de France and Monaco in Ligue 1.
PSG, who have still never claimed a Champions League trophy, now face a tough task in the return leg in Germany on March 8.
