N’DJAMENA, Chad: A violent attack on the headquarters of Chad’s internal security agency, ANSE, has cast a shadow over the upcoming presidential election.

The government blames the Socialist Party Without Borders (PSF) led by opposition figure Yaya Dillo, stating that the situation is under control and the perpetrators are being apprehended.

This incident follows the arrest of a PSF member accused of attempting to assassinate the supreme court president, an accusation Dillo has dismissed as fabricated. The attack adds to tensions in the lead-up to the May 6th election, which both Dillo and the current president, Mahamat Deby Itno, plan to contest.

Deby Itno assumed power in 2021 after his father, longtime president Idriss Deby Itno, was killed by rebel forces. This attack highlights the fragility of security and potential for political unrest as Chad navigates this critical electoral transition.
