ISLAMABAD: Censorship levels have reached a new high in occupied Jammu and Kashmir after India revoked its special status in August 2019 and the Modi regime has used a series of intimidation tactics to ensure that no reporting critical of his actions gets out of the territory.

A report published by Kashmir Media Service said that journalists, rights activists and even common netizens in IIOJK are being arrested for simply expressing their views on social media.

She said that ordinary citizens’ Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts are constantly censored to ensure that no voice that contradicts the government’s claims is heard. Kashmiri mobile phones are being recorded and every individual’s activities are being monitored by Indian agencies, he added.

The report lamented that the IIOJK mainstream media is not allowed to report the facts on the ground and the legitimate political voices of the people of Occupied Kashmir are being silenced on the charges of “national security”.

She said that the new censorship regime in the territory is meant to bring Kashmiris to their knees and make them submit to Indian policies, but India must remember that it cannot cover up what is happening in Kashmir by imposing strict censorship.
