PESHAWAR: Cases of AIDS and hepatitis have surfaced in the prisons of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
According to the document, there is a capacity of 13076 prisoners in the prisons of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and now their number is 14321. Only 2897 of the prisoners in the prisons are convicted while 11424 prisoners are awaiting verdicts.
AIDS, Hepatitis patients
According to the documents, 196 prisoners are suffering from infectious diseases in the prisons, of which 138 prisoners are suffering from Hepatitis-C, 29 prisoners are suffering from Hepatitis-B, 25 from AIDS, and 4 are suffering from TB. The document states that a maximum of 47 sick prisoners are in Peshawar Central Jail.
Superintendent Central Jail Peshawar Maqsood Khan while talking to a local news channel said that the hospital of Central Jail Peshawar has a capacity of 124 patients, there are 8 doctors including 2 female doctors to treat the sick prisoners. Medicines are also given to the prisoners suffering from various diseases. Specialist doctors also come to the jail whenever required, he added.
