ISLAMABAD: In a whirlwind of excitement, fans flocked to what they thought was Himanshu Sangwan’s social media profile after he bowled out Virat Kohli for six runs in the Ranji Trophy clash on Friday. However, it soon came to light that the account in question did not belong to the pace bowler.
The atmosphere at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi buzzed with anticipation as thousands gathered to witness Kohli’s first Ranji Trophy appearance in over a decade. Their hopes quickly dimmed when he was dismissed after facing just 15 balls, courtesy of Sangwan, a former Delhi player now representing Railways since 2019.
In the heat of the moment following the dismissal, Kohli’s fans took to Instagram, unleashing their fury on what they believed was Sangwan’s account. Yet, the actual account holder soon stepped in with a clarifying story, stating, “Brothers, I am not the cricketing Himanshu Sangwan that you think I am.”

In a follow-up video, he expressed his frustration: “Since this morning, Virat Kohli fans have been trolling me, bombarding me with comments and messages. I am not the cricketer Himanshu Sangwan; I’m just an ordinary middle-class guy named Himanshu Sangwan. I’m overwhelmed with messages, so please help spread the word.”
Meanwhile, the real cricketer Sangwan, now playing in his 24th first-class match, maintains a private account that restricts comments from those who do not follow him.
