KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar and Federal Minister for Commerce, Industries & Board of Investment Gohar Ejaz Khan discussed the establishment of Industrial Park in Karachi.
During a meeting at the CM House on Friday, they emphasized the significance of industrialization as a key solution for economic development and job creation, the CM highlighted its potential to open new avenues for prosperity and upliftment.
The meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Dr Fakhre Alam, Federal Commerce Secretary Sualeh Farooqi, Secretary Federal BOI Sohail Rajput, and others, addressed the allocation of 1500 acres of land at Steel Mill for an Industrial Park. The development of this park has been entrusted to Chinese authorities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The federal minister informed the CM about the federal government’s plan to hand over the allocated land to Chinese authorities for establishing their industrial units. The CM expressed satisfaction with this development, citing ongoing efforts by the provincial government in developing the Dhabeji Industrial Zone.
Justice Baqar stressed the importance of industrial units dedicated to producing goods exclusively for export. He emphasized the need for exports to earn foreign exchange and prevent the country from falling behind in the current industrial landscape.
The CM was briefed on the potential impact of the Industrial Park at Steel Mill, anticipating the creation of more than one million direct and indirect job opportunities, along with a significant boost to the export of finished goods.
