Car Bomb in Moscow Injures Russian Military Intelligence Officer

MOSCOW: A car bomb explosion in northern Moscow on Wednesday injured an officer from Russia’s military intelligence agency, reported by Kommersant newspaper.

Russia’s interior ministry confirmed two injuries from the blast caused by an unidentified device and stated that a criminal case had been initiated.

Alexander Bortnikov, head of the Federal Security Service (FSB), informed the SHOT Telegram channel that the suspect had fled to Turkey and efforts were underway to extradite them.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya later announced on X that a Russian citizen suspected in the attack had been apprehended in Bodrum after arriving from Moscow by plane.

Video footage shared by Russian media showed an explosion that tore through a Toyota Land Cruiser shortly after an officer and an unidentified woman entered the vehicle.

According to Kommersant, the injured man served in the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, commonly known as GRU. Baza, citing sources in Russia’s security services, also identified the injured individual as a GRU officer.

State news agency TASS reported that an officer and his wife were injured in the blast, with the man losing his feet. TASS further noted damage to five other vehicles in the vicinity of the explosion.
