On Friday, the government of Canada made an announcement that it would be providing more military aid to Ukraine in the amount of C$39 million ($28.9 million). This assistance would include a gift to a NATO fund as well as the provision of 40 sniper rifles and 16 radio sets.
Anita Anand, Canada’s Minister of Defence, made the announcement at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where NATO defence officials are gathering to discuss additional military supplies for Ukraine. The most recent round of Canadian assistance, which also includes ammo for the rifles, was revealed by Anita Anand.
According to a statement released by the Canadian Ministry of Defence, Prairie Gun Works, located in Canada, will be responsible for the procurement of the rifles and ammunition, while L3Harris Technologies will be in charge of the procurement of the radios.
The donation to the NATO fund, which is approximately $34.6 million Canadian, will assist in the provision of petroleum supplies and other assets to the Ukraine.
“The donations and support that have been announced by Canada today will help ensure that Ukraine has what it needs to defend its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity,” Anand added.
Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a year ago, Canada has been one of the city’s most steadfast backers and has pledged billions of dollars in help, including more than one billion Canadian dollars in military assistance.
Russia has referred to what it is doing in Ukraine as a “special military operation” in order to battle what it sees as a danger to national security.
