OTTAWA: Canada has decided to supply 80,840 small unarmed air-to-surface rockets to Ukraine as well as 1,300 warheads in the coming months, said Defense Minister Bill Blair in a statement on Friday.

Canada announced an initial delivery of 2,160 unarmed CRV7 rockets in June. Each CRV7 rocket can be equipped with warheads designed to strike buildings, tanks or soldiers.

The country will also donate chassis assemblies from 29 M113 armored personnel carriers and 64 Coyote armored vehicles, which are no longer used by the Canadian armed, Blair said.

Since a war between Russia and Ukraine started in February 2022, Canada has committed C$4.5 billion ($3.3 billion) in military assistance.

Earlier, the British government had said that it would provide Kyiv with 650 lightweight multi-role missiles worth 162 million pounds to help protect the country from Moscow bombing and drones.

Russia last week unleashed its largest air strike on Ukraine since the full-scale war started early in 2022. Kyiv has made repeated requests for more air defence support to defend itself from missile and drone strikes.
