ISLAMABAD: Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tarik Ali Khan, has appreciated Islamabad’s efforts to facilitate engagement aimed at advancing regional peace.

The Canadian High Commissioner expressed the remarks in a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, here in Islamabad on Thursday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement.

During the meeting, Dar highlighted Pakistan’s continued efforts toward promoting lasting peace in the region and beyond.

Commending the regular high-level engagements, he reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations with Canada across a wide range of sectors.

On Wednesday, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott also called on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and discussed the ongoing regional situation following the extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

Pakistan took centre stage when it brokered a 14-day ceasefire between the US and Iran, followed by high-stakes talks in Islamabad attended by senior delegations from the two countries earlier this month.

The high-stakes talks concluded without a final agreement; however, it paved the way for further negotiations and diplomacy to resolve the US-Iran conflict.

The Pakistan-brokered ceasefire remained intact, with confidence-building measures being pursued to secure a permanent truce.
