PHNOM PENH: A Cambodian man was killed by about 40 crocodiles on Friday after falling into their enclosure on his family’s reptile farm, according to the police.
The crocodile grabbed the 72-year-old was using as a goad and drew him in as he attempted to remove it from a cage where it had deposited eggs.
The leading group of reptiles attacked him and shredded his body to pieces and covering the concrete enclosure at the farm in Siem Reap in blood,
The police chief of Siem Reap commune, Mey Savry, told AFP, “He was trying to get a crocodile out of an egg-laying cage when it bit the stick and knocked him into the enclosure.”
He said: “Then many other crocodiles pounced, attacking him until he died. The remains of his body were covered with bite marks.”
He claimed that one of the man’s arms had been chewed off and eaten by crocodiles.
Earlier in 2019, the police had reported that a two-year-old child strayed into her family’s reptile farm in the same village and was killed and eaten by crocodiles. There are several crocodile farms around Siem Reap, the city that serves as the entrance to the renowned Angkor Wat ruins. The reptiles are kept for their meat, eggs, skins, and young for sale.
