PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s parliament on Tuesday elected Hun Manet as the new Prime Minister of the country, AFP reported.
Hun Manet is the eldest son of Cambodia’s former PM Hun Sen, the long-time ruler who recently stepped down.
Cambodia Elects Hun Manet as New PM
Heng Samrin, the lawmaker, while chairing the session, announced the unanimous victory of Hun Manet.
Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won all the seats in the lower house in the July election. The polls were widely criticized as the main opposition party was barred from contesting the election.

Days after the landslide victory, Hun Sen, one of the world’s longest-serving leaders, said he was stepping down in favour of his son, Hun Manet, after four decades.
The Cambodian king- convened parliament on Monday, paving the way for lawmakers to elect four-star general Hun Manet, 45, as the new Prime Minister on Tuesday.
