ISLAMABAD: On the Ministry of Information Technology (IT)’s recommendation, the federal cabinet approved the E-Safety Bill 2023 (E-Safety Bill 2023) on Wednesday to safeguard user data and stop the unauthorized use of information systems.
In Pakistan, a complete framework will be established by this law to guarantee the protection and unauthorized use of user data on all kinds of online services, online shopping, data provided to different companies, and social networking websites. After the law is approved, horrible crimes, including internet harassment, cyberbullying, and extortion, will be successfully avoided.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over the meeting. On the advice of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the meeting also gave its preliminary nod to the Personal Data Protection Bill-2023.
According to this bill, the government would guarantee the security of the user’s personal information/data at numerous organizations and companies and forbid sharing that information/data without the user’s consent with any business, person, or governmental body. The National Commission for Personal Data Protection (NCPDP), which will serve as a civil court to protect user privacy and address complaints, will be constituted under the law.
The forum also approved the Investment Board Ordinance 2001 draft amendment bill for the promotion of foreign investment in Pakistan. The law will ensure the speedy implementation of foreign investment projects in Pakistan.
The cabinet also endorsed the decisions taken by the cabinet committees on Privatization, and Inter-Governmental Transactions separately held on July 10. —APP
