KABUL: At least two persons were killed and 14 others sustained injuries in a tragic explosion on a bus in Kabul’s Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood of Afghanistan’s capital city on Saturday, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said in a statement.
The blast, reported on Saturday, targeted the bus and resulted in the unfortunate loss of two civilian lives, with 14 more sustaining injuries. The wounded persons were immediately transported to nearby hospitals. Police authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
Terror Incidents in Kabul’s Dasht-e-Barchi Neighborhood
Dasht-e-Barchi has been a recent focal point for such incidents, with a similar explosion in November claiming the lives of at least seven people on another bus. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for that attack.
While bomb blasts and suicide attacks have significantly decreased in Afghanistan since the Taliban assumed control in August 2021, effectively ending their insurgency, remnants of armed groups, including the regional chapter of IS, continue to pose a persistent threat.
The latest tragedy emphasizes the importance of continued vigilance and security measures in the region, as the Afghan capital grapples with sporadic acts of violence.
