Bulgarian Citizens to Face Espionage Charges in U.K.

LONDON: Three Bulgarian nationals who were arrested in February on suspicion of espionage in U.K. have been charged with possessing fake identity documents, reported western media on Tuesday.

Reports  citing the Metropolitan Police said Orlin Roussev, 45, Bizer Dzhambazov, 42, and Katrin Ivanova, 32, appeared last month in the Central Criminal Court in London.

According to reports they alledgdly worked for Russian security services. The police had recovered fake documents with 34 pieces of identification from them.

The documents recovered from them, includ passports and identity cards, from the U.K., Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece and the Czech Republic.

Counter-terrorism officials arrested the Bulgarian nationals with two others under the Official Secrets Act 1911, which criminalizes spying. That investigation continues.

The other two taken into custody by the police were, a 31-year-old man and 29-year-old woman, both from London. They were released on bail and are expected to appear in court next month.

The arrested people have not filed pleas. Their next date to appear in court has not been fixed yet. The three had been living in the U.K. for years.
