ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday said that the government would save Rs 45 billion annually by abolishing public sector vacancies from BPS 1 to 16.
Delivering the budget speech in the National Assembly he said the government is taking steps to reduce its expenditures.
He added that besides introducing reforms in the pension scheme, there was a proposal to abolish vacant public sector vacancies.
The minister said that a committee has been formed to reduce the size of the government structure which would present its recommendations to the Federal Cabinet soon.
He said planning is being done for the right-sizing of the Federal Government.
Aurangzeb said that there is a proposal to allocate funds for every division for capacity development and technical assistance.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the government has proposed to increase the minimum monthly basic salary from Rs 32,000 to Rs 37,000, in the fiscal budget 2024-25.
He said that despite the financial difficulties, measures are being taken for the relief of government employees.
Earlier, in a crucial meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the cabinet approved the budget proposals for the fiscal year 2024-25.
During the meeting, the federal cabinet approved a significant 25 percent increase salaries of government employees.
With a proposed 25 percent salary increase for those in grades 1 to 16 and officers in grades 17 to 22 are set to receive a 20% raise.
