British Monarch to Visit Kenya Later this Month

LONDON: The UK’s monarch, Charles III, and his wife, Queen Camilla, will make a 4-day state visit to Kenya from the end of this month, Buckingham Palace said on Wednesday.

Kenya President William Ruto invited the royal couple for the trip, which comes as the African country prepares to celebrate sixty years of independence from Britain.

The palace said that the King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to Kenya from Tuesday, 31 October to Friday, 3 November 2023, to celebrate the warm relationship between the two nations and the strong and dynamic partnership they continue to forge, according to AFP.

It added that the King and Queen will tour Nairobi City County, Mombasa County, and surrounding areas.

The statement further said that their programme would reflect how the two nations were working together on a range of matters.

The palace said that they were working to boost prosperity, promote youth opportunity and employment, advance tackle climate change and sustainable development, and create a more stable and secure region.

This will be Charles III’s first trip to a Commonwealth country since becoming monarch last September.
