British, Iranian Diplomats Call on Senate Chairman to Discuss Bilateral Relations

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and Iranian Ambassador Dr Reza Amiri Moghaddam held separate meetings with Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani on Tuesday and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and exploration of avenues for expanded cooperation.

During the meeting between the Senate chairman and British diplomat, matters of paramount importance, like parliamentary cooperation, trade, investment, and public ties between the two countries, were discussed.

The chairman underlined the need to amplify partnerships between Pakistan and the UK in different sectors, especially in the areas of health, technology, and education. He emphasized increasing collaboration by mobilization of existing parliamentary friendship groups.

Sanjrani highlighted the immense investment opportunities in Pakistan within a favorable economic environment. He underlined the government’s efforts to promote investment and provide incentives to potential investors.

He highlighted that Gwadar was being emerged as a burgeoning economic center and encouraged UK investors to explore investment prospects in the region.

Jane Marriott appreciated Pakistan’s hospitality and socio-cultural diversity. She affirmed the UK’s recognition of Pakistan as an important partner and expressed keenness to advance and broaden the bilateral ties.

Iranian Diplomat’s Meeting with Sanjrani

In a subsequent meeting, the Senate chairman Sanjrani and the Iranian envoy discussed different facets of bilateral cooperation. Their discussion encompassed parliamentary ties, trade cooperation, and the stability of economic relations between Pakistan and Iran.

The chairman reaffirmed the shared goal of regional development and prosperity between the two nations, saying the commonalities in cultural,  religious, and social dimensions were identified as strong foundations for advancing bilateral collaboration.

He appreciated the commendable history of international cooperation between the two countries, reflecting the depth of their ties.

He also lauded the reinforcement of political, social, and economic stability in bilateral relations.

Sanjrani underscored the recent agreement to bolster parliamentary ties between the two nations and expressed gratitude for Iran’s support in restoring electricity to Makran and Gwadar divisions, alleviating the challenges faced by the local populace.
